My name is Octavia Brown, LCSW-C!
I am the Clinical Director of the Urban Institute of Mental Health (UIMH). Our mission is to provide compassionate, culturally competent mental health services to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities. We are dedicated to fostering healing and empowerment through innovative and inclusive therapeutic practices.
We are launching this campaign to raise funds to support our payroll needs and to bring on additional administrative staff and consultants. By strengthening our administrative team, we can focus on what we do best: visionary work, networking, educating, and training. As an individual with ADHD, my strengths lie in these areas, and having a robust administrative team will allow me to dedicate more time to these crucial activities.

Why We Need Support:
The Urban Institute of Mental Health continues to stay in-network with insurance companies, including Medicaid, to serve the population that needs us the most. However, being an insurance-based practice comes with significant financial limitations. Reimbursement rates are often low, and the administrative burden is high, which restricts our ability to grow and innovate.
By raising $50,000 we aim to:
- Receive licensure to practice as an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic in efforts to reach and serve more clients.
- Ensure payroll for our current and future staff.
- Hire additional administrative staff to streamline our operations.
- Bring on consultants to help us strategize and develop additional revenue streams outside of insurance companies.

We Are Making an Impact!
Since opening our doors in 2020 we have served (in some capacity) over 1,000 clients!
We serve 5 different counties in the state of Maryland.
We have a staff full of BIPOC clinicians and administrators.
We are currently in network with 4 different insurance providers including Medicaid which makes our services accessible to those who would not be able to afford out-of-pocket costs.
We have a tremendous amount of BIPOC clients who have never attended or participated in mental health therapy before.
