Celebrating 4 Years of UIMH — A Journey of Healing and Liberation

As we reach the four-year milestone for the Urban Institute of Mental Health (UIMH), we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey that has brought us here. From our humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of hope for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities, this journey has been nothing short of transformative.

At UIMH, we have always stood by our mission: to destigmatize and decolonize mental health care for populations that have long been underserved and overlooked. Over the past four years, we’ve witnessed the profound impact of culturally competent care, and how honoring people’s unique identities and experiences can lead to incredible healing.

The Impact of Four Years

In these four years, we’ve provided thousands of hours of therapy, guided meaningful conversations on healing intergenerational and ancestral trauma, and led numerous workshops designed to empower and uplift. Our goal has always been to bridge the gap between traditional mental health services and the lived experiences of marginalized populations — and we’re proud to say we’re doing just that.

Our movement to liberate BIPOC minds, community workshops, and group therapy sessions have allowed us to extend our services beyond traditional therapy, fostering spaces where individuals can come together, heal, and connect. We’ve seen firsthand the power of collective healing and the lasting changes it can bring to individuals, families, and communities.

Looking Ahead

While we celebrate the achievements of the past four years, we recognize that there is still so much more to do. The systems of marginalization and oppression that harm our communities are deeply rooted, but we are committed to fighting back — through education, advocacy, and providing mental health services that are compassionate, inclusive, and empowering.

Looking ahead, we will continue our mission to challenge colonial mindsets and practices within mental health, to center the voices and needs of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and to foster a world where every person has the opportunity to heal and thrive.

A Thank You to Our Community

None of this would be possible without the support of our incredible clients, team, and community. To everyone who has trusted UIMH with your mental health journey, attended our workshops, supported our vision, and stood by us — thank you. Your courage to heal, grow, and advocate for change inspires us daily. Together, we are creating a future rooted in liberation, love, and empowerment.

Here’s to Many More Years of Healing and Liberation

As we celebrate this milestone, we also look forward to the years to come. The journey of healing is ongoing, but together we will continue to dismantle barriers and create a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, can access mental health care that respects and uplifts them.

Thank you for being part of our story. Here’s to many more years of collective healing, growth, and transformation! 🖤
